That is the point --
Beauty is everywhere, all around us - in even the most simple of things we often take for granted and cannot see
Beauty is everywhere, all around us - in even the most simple of things we often take for granted and cannot see
WHY?:
The answer is not out there--
Not in the external, perceived indicators of happiness -- status, wealth, the encumbrances of material toys, things. The things we think we hunger for to fill us. No, not to be the most successful photographic artist, nor to be the most accomplished and successful real estate entrepreneur. Not in being a human doing, doing, doing... but rather, at least for me, a human being -- not just doing to fill the void. Quieting ourselves enough just to be, to listen, to hear. What is success anyway? How is it defined by others, but more importantly, how do you define it? So what does all of that mean? Simple -- for me, and I suspect many of us,
The answer is inside --
Deep inside. Simple - so simple because it is all right here, yet the journey inward whilst enlightening and enriching can be a difficult and often painful one. The gift is not so much identifying the innate talent, the skill, be it athletic, the arts, business acumen, sociological or political prowess, but more the gift is connecting to who we really are and not who we have necessarily set out to be blindly adopting, without question, the value systems, standards and mores of another. To achieve a sense of peace, of centeredness and connectedness to our soul, our spirit which ultimately is our connection to the hearts and souls of others and to the beauty of and in the universe
So, again, what does all this mean relative to my process?
My work is for me. It is intensely private. No more compromise and prostitution of my work for a buck, to do what sells. Yet I do wish to share the joy of simplicity of perception. One of the great things in life is that we all see things a little differently. We each bring to every image, to every experience an amalgamation of our own life's experiences evoking a different response in you than perhaps in me. Consequently , for the most part my images are untitled so that I will not manipulate your response, confining it to a predictable paradigm. And maybe, just maybe, you can respond outside the box. If we can truly touch another human's life whilst we are on this planet, then perhaps with a deep sense of gratification we have succeeded. To share the possibility of seeing things differently - without artistic license - to abstract an essence of what it is we live and breathe may suggest a new freedom -- that it is possible to choose to perceive even the simplest of things differently. To quote from a solo exhibition of my work in the United States at the Northern Trust Bank:

"Her work captures a unique and refreshing insight to the graphic and striking essence of her abstract images. Her creativity, imagination and design sense unite, commanding unusual, bold, exquisite, disciplined non-literal images.
The magic of her work evokes a response that bypasses the intellect and connects to a more primal, emotional, visceral and often sensual gut response. Her work exploits the ordinary -- distilling it to reveal the beauty in its essence" |
